Tobacco - Free Schools

 

A tobacco-free school prohibits all tobacco use anytime, anywhere by anyone on all school property, and at all school-sponsored events (California Health and Safety Code Section 104420 [n][2]). School property includes buildings, grounds and vehicles owned or leased by the school. School-sponsored events include sporting events, school dances and other events held on and off school property.

Sample announcements for communicating a 100% tobacco-free school policy at school events:
 
  • [School] is dedicated to providing its students, staff, and visitors with a safe and healthy environment to learn, work and play.  [School] has adopted a tobacco-free campus policy that prohibits the use of all tobacco products in school buildings, facilities, on school buses and at school sponsored events.  
 
  • For the health and safety of our students, (name of school district) is proud to have a 100% tobacco-free school policy. At this time, we would like to remind fans and visitors the use of any tobacco product, electronic smoking device or any alternative nicotine products or look-alikes is strictly prohibited. We appreciate your support and would like to thank you for keeping our school tobacco-free. Enjoy the (name of the event).
 
  • Welcome to (name of school/event). We would like to remind everyone that tobacco use of any kind, including electronic smoking devices like e-cigarettes, is prohibited – at all times, by everyone, everywhere! Thank you and enjoy the (name of the event).
