Adult students may earn a high school diploma, prepare for the GED, brush up on your basic skills (even if you have earned your diploma) or improve basic job skills for better job opportunities.
Adult basic education (high school) and GED prep courses are offered free of charge at the Calaveras County Office of Education, Monday through Friday. It is an “individualized” program that adults may join anytime.
You may be only a few units from completion of your diploma. Students working for a high school diploma will receive credit for:
- Previous high school work
- Work experience
- Technical schools
- General Education Development Test (GED)
Please bring to school any docu-mentation you may have for the above mentioned.
Graduation Requirements
In addition to earning the credits below, a student MUST pass the California High School Exit Examination.
One unit for each twelve productive clock hours of instruction.

Open Enrollment
Enrollment anytime throughout the year is permitted in classes to earn a high school diploma.
Concurrent Enrollment
Available to high school students - only on a voluntary basis after counseling.
Fee Based Classes
We also offer fee-based classes. These classes vary on times and dates according to when the instructor chooses to offer the class. These classes are advertised in the local newspaper and radio.
There are no waiting lists. Registration in the classes must be done in advance, unless arrangements have been made with the instructor.
Some of the fee-based classes that may be offered are:
- Photography
- Woodshop
- Financial Planning
- Computer Classes
- Driver Training
Payment/Refund of Fees
Cash, money orders, or cashier’s check will be accepted as payment for registration fees. Fees must be paid to the Calaveras Adult Education office before class begins. No refunds will be given once the class has begun unless a course is cancelled.
