More than the sum of its parts

More than the sum of its parts…

When fourth grader Aiden Taormina won Jenny Lind Elementary School’s first-ever mural contest last month, he didn’t realize just how big his prize would be. Under the guidance of mural artist Tony Byrnes, Aiden got to choose all the colors and execute the painting himself in just a few hours on Friday, May 3. His dad, Mike Riley, also got to witness Aiden’s accomplishment.

“I feel so proud to have my artwork on the wall,” Aiden said.

Byrnes, who has painted dozens of murals including the one on the front of Calaveras High School, described working with Aiden as “the most memorable mural painting experience I have ever had. Aiden is an extraordinary young man.”

Byrnes is dedicated to bringing a culture of art and community back to schools and hopes to create a ‘wall of fame’ at Jenny Lind Elementary. This mural is a project of Jenny Lind’s Beautification Committee, and was made possible by Lifetouch Photography, which donated the materials and artist.
