Programs

The Calaveras County SELPA has developed and provides regionalized programming on behalf of the Member Local Education Agencies (LEAs) which provide early education and transition services.

The Infant Development Specialist services are specifically designed to meet the unique needs of infants, from birth to three years of age and their families. The primary purpose of an early education program is to enhance the development of the infant.

These services are provided in the home to support the natural environment which promotes play as a learning experience for the child. Parents are encouraged to be their child’s teacher and advocate and Early Start staff are training to facilitate such interaction.

The Preschool Programs offer individual and small group instruction through a developmental or structured model. These programs offer a language rich environment and low student to adult ratios. The Structured Day Class is available for preschoolers who require additional positive behavior interventions, social skills and adaptive behavior skills instruction.
These services are provided for students that have been found eligible and require Special Education. These classes provide the opportunity for mainstreaming with non-disabled children whenever possible.
These programs are located at select sites around the county.

The Adult Transition Program is for students 18-22 years old. The program is designed to assist students in the transition to adulthood. Independent living, community, recreation, leisure and vocational skills are emphasized.

Students are also supported through the WorkAbility Grant. This grant supports opportunities which are appropriate for both the employer and the student’s unique needs.

Students also participate in community activities that help to reach our goal for these students to promote independence and acquire skills necessary to be as independent as possible after leaving school.
