Substitute Employment

The Calaveras County Office of Education (CCOE) employs certificated and classified substitutes, workers who are on-call, without regular hours of employment, but who are hired to fill vacancies of absent employees when needed. CCOE maintains a roster for Substitute Teachers (certificated) which is provided to all Calaveras County schools, and a roster of Substitute Paraeducators (classified) which is provided to schools associated with Calaveras County schools.

Working as a substitute employee is often a good way to make yourself and your work ethic known, and one of the best paths to securing regular employment. CCOE recruits for substitute teachers throughout the year.  Even if you can only substitute a few times each year, your help is needed.

Qualifying to substitute teach is easier than you might think.  If you possess a Bachelors Degree in any area of study and are willing to take the CBEST examination, which is a very simple basic skills test, we need you!

Our county has worked hard to develop plans to make our quality education in Calaveras even better!  Improving the quality of education means providing professional development for our teachers.  We require individuals not holding a teaching credential/or permit to take the SubSkills Online Training Course to earn a SubDiploma. You must pass with a score of 85% or higher.  You'll learn what is expected and what you can do to prepare.  To find out more about becoming a substitute employee, please visit the Employment section of this website.  To apply to be a substitute aide or teacher, go to the CLICK HERE website.
